So, May 3, 2001 at 17 hours our expedition has dropped in on the tourist shelter on Ai-Petri, purpose of our travel for today. On Ai-Petri plateau practically permanently blow of a strong wind, therefore dwellings are in narrow gully or in rocks for a guard against winds. The holes defending from a wind, were completed with unsightly constructions - not purged Finn-house. A feature of the construction of these house is that in them the windows do not open. It is necessary to eliminate tightening a moisture inside house, when on a plateau a cloud has seat. It helps to save heat inside house during strong winds blowing on plateau.

But this time Ai-Petri has met us by solar weather, which in these places happens rather seldom. However, on to far from horizon, in the some distance from the Finn-house already have begun to have seat a cloud on to plateau. Far from us on horizon were visible large sferic dielectric bell jars - it is closing from view military radar antennas.

We in the future still shall meet with it effect on our receiving equipment. In all tourist expositions this military basis correctly is called as "observatory". But at more close approximation to this "observatory" you will meet however, I do not advise to you to come nearer to it.
Having preempted from microbus our uncountable things, we come to host of the shelter to make arrangement about our residence. The shelter also was in a place, defended from a wind. In the last wanderings on Crimea I two times spent the night in this shelter, therefore well knew its host. Certainly, that negotiations on arranging our expedition in the shelter was entrusted to me.
Host of the shelter was Wladimir Romanovich Kulymin. He was born in Crimea under Yalta and from childhood was in love with mountains. Still a boy he get round many local Crimean mountains. Later, in long evening conversations he will tell to us about Crimea a lot of new, interesting and such, that will not read in any books. Subsequently Vladimir Kulymin has travelled the majority of mountain of USSR areas, has visited on many mountain tops. But, unfortunately, there is no such climber, which would not be broken! Early or late any climber falls in an extreme situation in mountains or is fallen from rock. Was fallen from rock and Vladimir. After long treatment the serious mountain tops for him were enclosed. He has returned to Crimea, where already during more than 20 years work the host of the shelter on Ai-Petri .

The tourist shelter was constructed in 1950 and the last year to it there was 50 years - anniversary. Later to it the restaurant was attached which during our stay on Ai-Petri even some times worked.

Having agreed about arranging in the shelter and having paid for residence, we have begun to be disposed. Having examined the tourist shelter and our rooms, we have opened, that from the room there is no exit out. House, as well as all other constitutions on Ai-Petri represented a hermetic construction, the windows did not open. Only in such case it was possible to save heat in the house during strongest winds blowing on Ai-Petri and to be saved from dampness when of a cloud have seat on the plateau.
But when Vladimir in more detail had found out about us, about ours QRP - expedition and about its purposes, he with own hand has drilled two hole in hermetic house for antenna coaxial cables for GP and for LW antenna. Really, ours radioamateur hobby can interest any man, especially of man of extreme trades.
The shelter, certainly, was not calculated for durable tourist residences in it. It was supposed, that the tourists will spend the one night maxima two days. Therefore, the rooms there were of the very small dimensions. To us two rooms were granted for residence. One for six bed in dimensions of 2,5*2,5 meters was. In which 5 members of our expedition - RK3ZK, UA3WX, UU4JCQ, US1REO, US1RCH lived. Other room was four-local, still smaller on the dimensions- 2*2. There lived US7IRL, US6IRL, US1-555. What can to do, at boundless spaces Ai-Petri plateau, place, where it is possible to live restricted! On the spacecraft perhaps rooms of crew are more on the dimensions than room of our shelter were on the Earth. But, QRP so QRP! Let it will concern not only our instrumentation, and to a place of our residence!
The limitations on the dimensions are dictated as a convenient place, where it is possible to construct house, and that is necessary to construct the house, which would not be purged by strongest winds Ai-Petri , and did not emit heat.
The principal task, which now faced to us, - to put antennas for the present there was a good weather. And it on Ai-Petri a rarity, in what later all of us were convinced. A good weather us indulge subsequently not often.
UR7IRL Has taken with itself GPA-30 antenna of the "Fritzel" corporation. Though this antenna under the certificate ensured operation only on ranges 20, 15, 10 meters, subsequently we used it and for operation on ranges 40 and 30 meters. UU4JCQ has taken with itself a self-made vertical quarter-wave antenna on 18 MHz range, which subsequently as has appeared, fine worked on CB range 27 MHz. The guys have begun to stake these antennas.
I with myself have brought a mass of wire antennas. It were the dipoles for my transceivers, wire YAGI on 15, 20, 30 meters, and some wire deltas for ranges 20 and 40 meters. But for wire antennas installing there was a problem. Our shelter was in narrow gully. But for installation of wire antennas ever one high mast it is necessary! Such mast in nearest proximity from us was only one - antenna mast of a mountain rescue service. We converted to the rescue behind a resolution to use their mast for our antenna. The consent was obtained, and soon wire LW antenna to length of 55 meters was installed. For this purpose on a shed costing nearby to the shelter I has hardened a small wooden mast, then clamber on a mast of the mountain rescue service and has hardened LW antenna there.

While I established the wire antenna, the guys have installed the vertical antennas. All group was occupied by installation of antennas. Me helped US1REO and US1RCH. Other guys were occupied by installation of ours vertical antennas. For good operation of LW antenna in some cases - at a low input impedance of the antenna, for its effective work it is necessary to use good grounding. As grounding for our LW antenna we have decided to use a metal cover of the shelter. Thereof has appeared, that the grounding for this antenna was necessary, its hook up augmented a current in an antenna on 20- 30 percents.
On the shelter roof GPs were spread with the help of cords and guys. The disposition of antennas is exhibited in fig. 2. At 19 hours of our antennas were installed. The supper in shelter dinner room - (uniquely large room! ) has followed. Large on measure of the tourist shelter. Full QRP! The dinner room was only of 3,5*4,5 meters in dimensions, but after ours tiny room it seem to us by a vast location!
